High level overview of how drought and water scarcity are exacerbating groundwater levels throughout California and the role of the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA) on ameliorating undesirable results from groundwater overpumping. Go over the opportunity and importance for small-scale farmers to become involved in the SGMA process and the who and how they can get involved. Go over the challenges of rebalancing water in California to ensure water for future generations in agriculture and go over the Department of Conservation's Multibenefit Land Repurposing Program-- what is it?what are multibenefit land uses? What are the benefits of these land uses? How small-scale farmers can become involved for equiable and locally representative water and land use management. Learn from attendees about any concerns and visions for implementing multibenfit land uses onto their farm.
