Alemaya Farm is family-owned. We have about 35 acres actively farmed (and we leave almost that much to nature). Our principal crops are vegetables, which we sell to wholesale. This year or next, orchards planted within recent years will begin to produce persimmons, figs and olives. In order to facilitate crop rotation, we may bring in a grain crop from time to time. We have animals to manure and mow the fields, and, when the numbers get too large, we will sell off some livestock. We have prepared to produce our own compost in volume, and we hope to commence that project early in 2023, using methods taught by Dr. Elaine Ingham. We also expect to build some Johnson-Su bio-reactors in 2023. We use compost extracts and mulches to build soil diversity. Alemaya Farm was certified Organic for seven years; in early 2022, I decided not to apply for annual re-certification. Our values and principles have not changed -- we focus on regenerative farming now.
